Hey there everyone! abosspanda here
with an article for you guys to look over and maybe get a little insight
on a few card choices for this upcoming format. So without further ado
here it is.
With this new banned list taking effect in just a few short days were going to take look at some cards that are going to be great to combat the upcoming meta as well as some of the current meta.
1) Ok starting off we have something that earned a solid slot in many side decks and the card is "Soul Drain". This coming format there are going to be several grave reliant decks just like this passing format. Dark World, Merlantian, Fire Kings and even some other rouge decks like Gravekeeper's all rely on their effects triggering in the grave and this card single handedly turns off all grave effects as well as banished effects. If your deck isn't graveyard reliant and if your meta is somewhat competitive I would highly recommend finding room for this card in your side deck.
3) The next card I'll be discussing is a personal favorite and I always try to find room to side at least one copy in any deck and that card is the trap card "Mind Crush". One of the most crippling combo's from a few formats ago was activating "Trap Dustshoot" followed by "Mind Crush", not only did you send a monster back you discarded other problem card/s from their hand. Going on 3 formats ago Konami banned "Trap Dustshoot" and many people stopped playing "Mind Crush" thinking since its combo partner was gone it was just another lackluster card. Well lets take a look at the format, with cards like "Wind Up Factory" , "Pot of Duality" , "Fire Formation - Tenki" , "Abyssmegalo" , "Machina Gearframe" , "Elemental Hero Stratos" , "Geargigant X" and so many more cards to be named all search and add cards to the hand. With all of those cards plus more don't you think being able to discard one or even a chance of hitting multiples of their combo pieces disrupting their plays is worth running? (or at least sided)
4) Ok so the next card Isn't something new to the meta, format after format this card will usually find its way to most players side decks and that card is "Thunder King Rai - Oh". So this card stops any card from being added from either players deck to their hand and you can tribute itself to stop the inherent summon of a monster. Needless to say this card is incredibly versatile and can hinder a lot of plays. With Six Samurai getting a third copy of "Shien's Smoke Signal" as well as Merlantian and Fire Fist decks all using cards that search for combo pieces this card hinders their ability to search as well as negating the summon of their decks larger monsters. Now with the semi limitation of this card I don't really see any change in people using this card seeing as most players only ran 1-2 copies of this card anyway.
5) Lastly I would like to talk about another personal favorite and an extremely effective card in the current and upcoming format and that card is "Compulsory Evacuation Device". What can I say about this card really? Aside from the fact that it can disrupt so many plays, save you from game winning swings, clear problematic monsters and even recycle your own combo pieces all for the price of ... oh wait! That's right this card has no cost what so ever! With the limitation of Solemn Warning I can see this card rising in popularity again and could easily substitute its place especially seeing as the card has no real drawback.

Activate by paying 1000 Life Points. Monsters that are banished, as well as monsters in the Graveyard, cannot activate their effects (that start a Chain).

Neither player can Special Summon monsters. When this card is flipped face-up: Destroy all Special Summoned monsters on the field.2) Next up we have one of most disrupting card's in the game, that cards name is "Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo". This card backed with some decent protection can disrupt almost any deck. Almost all the meta decks like to special summon one monster or several monsters a turn and with this monsters effect they no longer have the option to do that. Dyna can also be used in a aggressive sense, seeing as your opponent can no longer special summon you don't have to worry if they have Tragoedia or Gorz. An added bonus with card is that if its set face down and is flipped face up in any manner it will destroy any monsters that were special summoned (yours included) which if timed right can be devastating to aggressive players.
Declare 1 card name; if that card is in your opponent's hand, they must discard all copies of it, otherwise you discard 1 random card.

Neither player can add cards from their Deck to their hand except by drawing them. During either player's turn, when your opponent would Special Summon a monster: You can send this face-up card to the Graveyard; negate the Special Summon, and if you do, destroy it.

Target 1 monster on the field; return that target to the hand.
